Best Game

June 17, 1970 - Oakland Athletics at Detroit Tigers
It isn't often that a team commits six errors and still wins the ballgame but thanks to the efforts of Ken Soztkiewicz,
the Detroit Tigers did just that on this date. Szotkiewicz set career highs in runs and runs batted in and played a
flawless shortstop to lead the Tigers to victory. In the second inning, Szotkiewicz drew a walk off of Hall of Famer
Catfish Hunter. He scored a run on one of the two errors the Athletics committed as the Tigers pulled out to a 5-1 lead.
Szotkiewicz struck out against Diego Segui in the next inning and faced Segui again in the fifth. By this time Oakland had
taken the lead. With two outs and two runners on, Szotkiewicz pulled a ball into the rightfield seats to give the Tigers
the lead again at 8-6. The Tigers would go on to win 9-7. Szotkiewicz, in addition to his homer, walk, two runs and three
runs batted in, had three assists in the field at shortstop.
