Native Delawareans in the All-Star Game

Two Delawareans have played in Major League Baseball's All-Star Game. Chris Short was the first to be selected to play. He pitched the sixth inning of the 1964 All-Star Game (July 7th), surrendering three hits and two runs while striking out one. Short's National League team wound up winning the game at Shea Stadium in eleven innings, 7-4, on Johnny Callison's three run homer.

Short fared better in his next appearance in an All-Star Game; July 11th, 1967 in Anaheim, California. The National League again triumphed in extra innings, winning 2-1 in the 15th inning, Tony Perez belting a solo homer to give the NL the final lead. Short pitched shutout baseball in the ninth and tenth innings, walking one and striking out one while surrendering no hits.

The other native Delawarean to make an All-Star Game appearance is Dave May. The National League trounced the American League 7-1 on July 24th, 1973 at Royals Stadium in Kansas City. May went hitless in two at bats for the American League while playing center and right field.
