Biography

Seventeenth native Delawarean to play in the major leagues. Father of Bill Crouch, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers
in the 1940's.

Best Game

July 12, 1910 - St. Louis Browns at Washington Senators
It's not often that a player's entire major league career is comprised of a single game pitched that ended in a tie.
Only five players in history have done that. None had the caliber of opponent that Bill Crouch had on July 12, 1910.
The Browns, in desperate need of pitching help, grabbed Crouch from the DuPont Powder company team in Delaware to face
the Senators. Crouch's mound opponent was none other than future Hall-of-Famer Walter Johnson. After eight innings,
the game was halted because of rain and the score tied at four runs apiece. While impressive that he managed to tie

Johnson, Crouch was deemed not ready to be a regular pitcher due to his control (seven walks) and fielding (two errors
which have been erased from the official record) and Crouch returned to Delaware never to pitch in the majors again.
