Biography

Twenty-third native Delawarean to play in the major leagues. Buried at All Saints Cemetery in
Wilmington, Delaware. Accomplished pianist. On June 23, 1937, while playing for Birmingham, Cihocki
went 5 for 5 against Atlanta. For Syracuse in 1934, Cihocki started two triple plays. Injuries
afflicted Cihocki at the end of his career. In 1937 he damaged ligaments in his right ankle twice. He
played the final month and a half of the 1938 season with a broken finger on his throwing hand. In
1939, the toenails on his big toes became infected from kicking the base and he missed many games.
During World War II, Cihocki went for naval training in Norfolk, Virginia. He later became president
of the Wilmington School Parochial Baseball League.

Best Game

May 22, 1933 - St. Louis Browns at Philadelphia Athletics.
In a see-saw battle between Ed "Satchelfoot" Wells of the Browns and Robert "Lefty" Grove of the
Athletics, Cihocki provided the deciding run. Cihocki provided an early run for the Athletics by
doubling and scoring. The Browns were able to even the score three times during the game, the final
time being in the eighth inning on a Art Scharein double. In the bottom of the eighth, Jimmie Foxx
reached base on a single. He was moved around the bases and Cihocki hit a single to left to knock
in the winning run.
